Countertop Comparison; Marble, Quartz & Granite

There are many things to consider when renovating or updating your kitchen. One major aspect being countertops! Let’s narrow down 3 of the top choices and figure out which one is best suited for you;

Marble

  • Pros

    • Elegant look, unique veining

    • Traditionally beneficial use for pastry and dough rolling as the surface stays cool

  • Cons

    • Even with yearly sealant, it does not hold up well to stains

    • Chip and/or scratch due to its porous nature

    • An expensive option

Our Recommendation: Stick to using marble in smaller accent areas where high traffic and work surface usage is limited.

Quartz or Engineered Stone

  • Pros

    • Man-made

    • Heat resistant

    • Low maintenance, doesn’t require sealing, and is non-porous

    • Lots of beautiful colors and patterns!

    • Can be used as a backsplash, to create a seamless and luxurious look

    • Customizable thickness, edges, finishes, and texture

  • Cons

    • Because it is man-made, it may be noticeable that it’s not the ‘real thing’

    • Quartz with more extravagant designs are subject to varying patterns

Our Recommendation: Quartz can vary in price, however, its quality and durability can make it a valuable investment for your kitchen or bathroom. Please note — Quartz stone is heavy, so it will require supports for the cabinet boxes.

Granite

  • Pros

    • Naturally, beautiful colors, speckles, and patterns

    • Resistant to heat, knives, and spills, when sealed

    • Texture options; matte or polished

    • Cost-effective option

  • Cons

    • More maintenance as it must be sealed to avoid staining

Our Recommendation: Remember to seal your granite to avoid staining and wear.
