FORM AND FUNCTION IN EAST VAN

Clever organization is a key in compact apartment living. We were hired by G, P, and J :) to redesign and renovate their kitchen, bedroom storage, and entry storage unit. The apartment is a north-facing, one-bedroom unit off of Commercial Drive.

Functional design is a must in small-space living, and clever storage organization is the key. Another consideration is the orientation - north facing living has limited sun exposure and cool light hues. Designing with lighter colours and reflective surfaces helps in brightening the space.

Clean and easy access to apartment electrical box is a MUST!

In-suite storage rooms are a pure luxury in apartment living. When designed well, this space serves as a functional storage of household goods, while freeing up the living areas. This room houses coats and shoes, but also serves as a technical room, with the electrical box and other gadgets.

Using white cabinetry in the storage room was a must to avoid the tunnel effect and to make the space feel as light as possible (no natural light). In addition, push-open latches were used instead of handles to allow for the unobstructed flow.

MODUS designed and renovated this space along with the kitchen and bedroom renovation in the same unit.

Client’s stunning mid-mod bed unit

Our client’s fantastic mid-mod furniture pieces added the warmth to the overall feel of the space. These timeless pieces not only complimented the modern white elements that we installed, but ended up becoming the stars of the show.
